Wellbeing and support
Wellbeing and support
At Escape Studios, there is a team of support staff to help you manage and thrive during your time studying with us. Read about how we support our students including health/wellbeing, academic and practical support.
Additional learning needs support
We take an inclusive approach to teaching and learning at Escape Studios. For any questions not answered here, please contact learningsupport@escapestudios.ac.uk.
Your Additional Learning Needs
We believe in equal opportunities for everyone and welcome students from all backgrounds. We follow the guidelines of the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments for students who need them.
When you’re accepted to study with us, we’ll invite any applicants who have declared additional learning needs to talk about extra support you might need to succeed in your course. Additional learning needs can come from various conditions, including:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Physical disabilities
- Specific learning challenges like Dyslexia or Dyspraxia
- Mental health conditions
- Sensory or physical disabilities
- Long-term or serious medical conditions.
Examples of reasonable adjustments
We recognise that access requirements can vary from student to student, so we will meet with you to discuss the adjustments that will work best for you and your needs.
Reasonable adjustments could include:
- Extra time for individual assessments (note this does not apply to group projects)
- Recorded class sessions, with access to recordings, slides, course materials, and captioned video materials on the Online Learning Environment (OLE)
- Teaching materials in alternative formats (e.g. larger fonts, coloured backgrounds)
- Adjusted group work expectations
- Breaks during long sessions
- Use of ergonomic furniture or specialist equipment
- Reserved accessible seating or support with room changes.
How we communicate with you
Students who declare additional learning needs (ALN) in your application or after enrolment will be contacted by Study Skills Tutors, Personal Tutors and Studio Assistants for regular check-ins on progress and support. We recommend you let us know as soon as possible (i.e. in your application) if you need support, so we can work together to put this in place as soon as possible.
We will also endeavour to provide clear and structured instructions and feedback, as well as advanced notice of changes wherever possible.
Feel free to reach out to us to discuss your needs, even if your situation isn’t listed here. If you are a current student who wishes to apply for an additional learning needs agreement, this can be done through MyEscape.

Health and Wellbeing
To provide a free, confidential and 24/7 wellbeing service for students, we partner with Spectrum.Life.
Students have access to confidential, in-the-moment support and counselling referrals from mental health professionals who can assist you with stress, anxiety, depression and more.
Spectrum.Life also offers extra wellbeing tools including fitness plans, recipes and eLearning content.
Academic and learning support
Personal Tutors
You’ll have your own personal tutor and meet with them regularly for one-to-one check-ins, pastoral support and to discuss your progress each term.
You don’t have to wait for a formal meeting to get support - we have an open-door policy, which means you can ask to talk to your personal tutor, programme leader or Student Services at any time. Just ask!
We also monitor attendance very closely, as it’s vital to your success. We want to make sure we’re there to help, if you have any problems. So, we’ll be in touch if you’ve been absent, and if you miss more than a couple of classes, we’ll arrange to meet and talk things through.
Studio Assistants
Our brilliant Studio Assistants are an invaluable part of our support team. They are here to help make sure you're on the right track.
As Escapees (Escape Studios alumni!), our Studio Assistants have been through it all before. They are based at our Escape Hub as well as in the studios to assist the tutor and classes on a day-to day basis*.
Studio Assistants are also available after class to help with coursework or clarify anything from the lessons.
*Undergraduate classes over 17 students and postgraduate classes over 6 students have an assigned Studio Assistant to offer extra support to the tutor and students.
Study Skills Team
Although studying with us is primarily a creative, visual experience, there is also an academic side to be fulfilled such as writing essays or presenting.
Our Study Skills Team run workshops throughout the year on topics like presentation skills. research techniques and organising your workload.
Study Skills Tutors are also available for 1-2-1 support on things like writing skills, structuring your assignments, time management or any study-related questions. Our Study Skills Team are all experienced in working with students with additional learning needs such as those with ADHD or dyslexia.
Online Learning Environment (OLE) and library
On our OLE, you’ll discover a range of study materials to support your learning. Resources include module information, video tutorials, technical support and helpful guidance.
The platform is screen-reader friendly, contains captioned video materials, and is clear and structured to improve accessibility.
You’ll have full access to our online library 24/7, including thousands of ejournals and over 400,000 ebooks! The materials you’ll need for each topic are included in your online learning modules, so you’ll know exactly what’s coming up and how to prepare for each one.

Funding for disabled students
If you have a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition, or learning difficulty (such as dyslexia or ADHD), you may be entitled to claim Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
The DSA is government funding designed to help cover extra study-related expenses that you may face as part of your studies. Make sure you apply for DSA as early as possible - we recommend at the same time as applying for Student Finance (if applicable). It can take some time for applications to be approved, which can delay your access to ALN support at Escape.
Our learning support team can help guide current students through the DSA application process or work with you directly if you choose not to apply for it.
